Reactions From Locals On Reports Of ICE In Magic Valley ID
A motorist who appeared to be gassing up Thursday at a southwestern Idaho service station shared photographs of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) allegedly conducting a investigation. This report has been disputed by a number of locals.
Reports of recent ICE raids in southern Idaho have been frequent since a large investigation resulted in over 100 arrests in late-October. Immigration authorities acted on a tip in Wilder, 12 miles west of Boise, on October 19 and detained 105 people, according to the Idaho Capital Sun.
The agency has made public arrests in recent months in Idaho of undocumented state residents. ICE's purpose is to enforce laws pertaining to immigration, customs, and border patrol in the United States, and was established in 2003 largely in response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
ICE is currently monitoring more than 180,000 families and individuals in the U.S., according to Trac Immigration. An estimated 520,000 illegal aliens have been deported under the direction of President Donald Trump, according to data from Homeland Security.
