One of the most impressive meteor clusters known to science will be streaking through the night sky and putting on a dazzling finale in the coming days across North America.

For those in Idaho who love to watch the evening sky for any signs of celestial stupefaction, you'll want to point those viewing devises to the sky this weekend. The heavens will be providing something much better than any firework show.

It wasn't until I escaped the big city lights and moved to the Sierra Nevada Foothills in the early-nineties that I began to see and appreciate meteor showers. Light pollution and storms are the two biggest culprits that prevent people from being able to enjoy these incredible displays. States with wide open land, such as Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, and Idaho are the best places to watch for meteor showers.

The Geminid Meteor showers will peak during the evenings of December 13 (Saturday) and December 14 (Sunday), according to science.gov. If you're planning on viewing the meteors this weekend, make sure to get as far away from manmade light sources as you can. Higher elevations will only enhance the experience.

Happy viewing!
